Asa - Why can't we (Video) + Lyrics

Nigerian singer-songwriter Asa will be on your radar after you hear her sun-soaked single 'Why Can't We,' a veritable summer anthem with an underlying story of heartache.

The 28-year-old's upcoming sophomore album, 'Beautiful Imperfection,' features a much different approach from her 2007 self-titled debut. "I had a lot to talk about -- social and political issues," she said in a release. "This time, I felt different: I wanted to create something that would help people come out of sad moods and feel uplifted."

The video for 'Why Can't We' features Asa at a dance party that's full of '50s technicolor rooms, pink and blue balloons and a whole lot of boogiein'. Reminiscent of Santogold, Asa couples her svelte alto with an overtly positive message that brings a "brightness" to the album.
