Dance used to be a strictly recreational but now it is a big deal as ‘Dance Nation’ a new dance competition is set to take over the Nigerian entertainment scene.

Designed to create a platform for the battle for the title of the best dancer in Nigeria, the Dance Nation crew will be traveling to four different regions in Nigeria in search of 10 boys and girls who will make the 20 finalist that will battle out on the Dance Nation’s stage.

It will be an unusual tension on stage every week as the boys and girls will pair up to perform rigorous dance routines form different genres passed down to them from their instructors or specially put together by them.

Dance Nation is no game for kids as only dancers from 18years upward and from all dance backgrounds e.g. salsa, cha-cha, contemporary, traditional, and not to forget hip hop are allowed to register.

With instructors from Nigeria and abroad, Dance Nation promises to be the toughest dance competition the entertainment industry in Nigeria ever experienced. Auditions will be held in Abuja, Enugu, Port Harcourt and Lagos.

The emerging winner of the maiden edition of Dance Nation gets to go on a two week dance course in South Africa, a car and a million naira. The second and the third get a million and N750,000 respectively. The remaining top ten will get between N150,000 to N250,000 depending on when they leave the show.

Speaking on the show Jemila Musa the producer said ‘Nigerians are very talented people either in arts or academics, but more people needs to get interested in these talents and provide platforms for them to be showcased which is where Dance Nation comes in. Not only do we want to search out these talents we want to set then on a trailblazing path’.

All set to revitalize the dance culture in Nigeria, Dance Nation forms will be available across the federation from May, 2011.
