Project Back 2 School 2011

School students from five (5) communities namely: agoegun, adogbon, ori oke, aiyetoro and apollo, gathered for the maiden edition of Project Back to School which was held on Jan 10, 2011 at the Makoko HMI Youth Centre: 7b Apollo, Street Yaba.
The event kicked off at 10:15 a.m. after a warm welcome by the Baale of Makoko.

The makoko children did their signature clap.
Inspirational speaker/youth advocate in person of Dayo Israel welcomed the students and introduced the project initiator Olamide Ogunleye popularly known as Olamild; when she mounted the stage; she encouraged the students to cultivate an attitude of giving regardless of any situation they find themselves. She then handed over to dayo who motivated and entertained the students alongside Seyi Ogunlusi (president of Yoruba Youth Corporation North America) who emphasized the need to aim high. The students came with their best moves as seyi slammed the African drums. Esther Ijewere (project capable initiator) played games with the students and handed over to Apostle Paul Aworetan (president of the makoko youth movement for health) who thanked the students for their co-operation and made them do their signature clap.

Olamild mounted the stage again to encourage young girls to strive hard and beware of abusers in form of helpers. When asked how she felt about the makoko project, she said “the whole experience has been nothing short of overwhelming. Our target was primary school students and we were only expecting 50 of them. I was stunned to see 200 students ranging from nursery school all the way through secondary school; I had to beg the makoko boys to shut the gate to avoid overcrowding the hall. Thank God we were able to provide a little something for everyone that showed up though. Those children are willing to learn and they need our help, if God lays it in your heart to help, donate some school supplies to them.

The items distributed are but not limited to calculators, note books, crayons, rulers and erasers. Project Back to School was sponsored by Arik Air. Photography for the project was sponsored by Niyi Akinmolayan (Film Director/Kajola). Official project partners are Yoruba Youth Corporation and Rubies Ink. School supplies were donated by several organizations and individuals.

Project Back 2 School is an Olamild Ent initiative; the next one is scheduled to hold in December 2011. Visit www.projectback2school.org for more information and photos.
