Lara George - I am Glad

Lara George is one of Naija's leading female artistes. Classy, immensely talented and one with a spellbinding voice, she blew our minds away just last month at the 2010 Nigerian Entertainment Awards. I am Glad is a song from Lara's most recent album and we're sharing it today because it is perfect for the 50th independence anniversary. When asked to describe her album, Lara says:

"The album’s Just INGENIOUS….’cos every time I listen….I’m Refreshed….i’m inspired, uplifted…… Check this; ‘I wake up and I’m depressed, no electricity, drive through traffic on my way to work…..but I thank GOD for car stereo, and just what I need….”The Lara George Album”….. ‘cos no matter the situation, ‘I AM GLAD’…..that I’m Naija for Life mehn……and ‘EMI A RIIRE’ forever-ever…..as long as I continuously ‘RUN WITH YOU’- LORD, my song will remain ‘HALLELUYAH’…… Because I ‘TELL HIM-HE IS LORD’, and declare to the world that ‘KO MA SI-NOBODY LIKE YOU’, when asked by doubters about hurdles and difficulties of past, I simply say ‘O TI SE’….. The ‘KEEPER OF MY DREAMS’ Lives ‘FOREVER IN MY HEART’....HE has assured me that even though the ‘FIG TREE’ may not blossom, and the world around me crumbles, ‘KO LE BAJE’, and he will MU MI DE’LE’…. to that place HE has promised. ‘OH LA LA’….some drive that was. Well, if y’all are my friends, ‘cos you know ‘I LOVE YOU’, right?….you’ll go get yours….This is a TOP COLLECTOR’S ITEM!"
Awards received include Voice of the Year (Female) – Nigeria Music Awards 2008, as well as Best Gospel Song, Best Female Gospel Artiste – Nigeria Gospel Music Awards 2009 and Best Gospel Artist of the year - NEA Awards 2010.

Uh.

Verse I

In the middle of the trial, we find a place to laugh
In the heart of wicked justice, we’ve forged ahead to grow
Bumpy roads and darkened homelands don’t kill our will you know; Still we gotta go.

Verse II
When the road that stands before you, looks like it never ends
When the fire would devour you, or so it seems my friend,
Well the more you sing, the more you, will make that trouble bend
Sing and let it end

Chorus:
(I am glad) Glad to walk the earth
(I am glad) That I was born a Nigerian
(I am glad) Glad to be alive, glad that I was born

(I am glad) Oh I am happy
(I am glad) To be a part of destiny
(I am glad) Glad to walk the earth, glad that I was born

Verse III
In the absence of a visa, with nowhere left to go
We must stay and build up this our illustrious land of gold
Happily with hearts of bliss as we work it yes we know
Oh we’ll let it grow (oh yes)

Bridge 2ce:
There’s a place inside the dreamer
That is reaching for the stars
If I could only fly, I’d make it up high
I’ll make it to the sky

Oh I am happy, yes I am (I am glad, I am glad)
Oh I am glad to be alive (I am glad, I am glad)
If I could only fly, I’d make it up high
I’ll make it to the sky

Oh I am happy, yes I am (I am glad, I am glad)
Glad to be alive (I am glad, I am glad)
If I could only fly, I’d make it up high
I’ll make it to the sky

Glad to be alive (I am glad, I am glad)
Glad that I was born (I glad, I am glad)
If I could only fly, I’d make it up high
I’ll make it to the sky……..
