COWBELL iTRY LAGOS RUGBY COACHING SCHEME SET TO LAUNCH ON WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 13, 2010 at TBS.

The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has announced that October 13, 2010 will be the official launch date of the Cowbell iTry Lagos Rugby Coaching for secondary schools.

This follows on from the establishment of the sponsorship partnership to develop youth rugby in Nigeria between the NRFF (through the RUGBY4Nigeria Foundation) and Promasidor Nigeria Ltd.

Fola Odetoyinbo, NRFF Head of Youth Development, said that the scheme has been developed to teach the game of rugby to JSS 1 students between the ages of 11 and 12. “Significant investment has been made to make this a sustainable scheme. To achieve this each participating school will be given a rugby equipment package comprising of rugby balls, pumps and kit for the students.”

“Furthermore, 12 coaches have been accredited following completion of a comprehensive International Rugby Board (IRB) training program. Each coach will be given a package including track suit, rugby shirts, training cones, balls, pumps, stop watch and a laptop to enable them train the students at their designated schools.”

Approximately 500 people are expected at the launch at Tafa Balewa Square. The attendees comprise of representatives of 28 secondary schools participating in the program. Each school will be represented by 2 teachers and 15 students.

Also in attendance at the launch will be Prince Adeniji Adele, Lagos State Commissioner of Sports, Mr Keith Richards, the Managing Director of Promasidor and Dr Richard Ajayi, the President of the NRFF. In addition to the dignitaries will be representatives of the Lagos State Sports Development and the National Sports Commission.
