ILL BLISS SPEAKS ON THE SMVA

MVA is an award used to reward excellence in the art of creativity of production videos, and the origin or the basis for which SMVA was born to give a platform and equal opportunities to the various talents that Nigeria has recorded over the years.

Rapper Ibo Boy Ill Bliss (Tobechukwu Ejiofor) has credited the Soundcity Music Video Awards for “putting him on the map”. “The SMVA is every Nigerian artist’s dream award. Don’t get me wrong, all awards are important and give joy to the winner and the nominees but the SMVA is special because it is an award given out by a television channel that is almost entirely dedicated to music. The SMVA comes from Soundcity television channel which plays our videos and for them to give out any award means that it is merited. Winning it put me on the map and made the world take note of me” he said.

The criteria for nomination are based on a wide pool of videos depending on the best category fit for a nominated video and then filtered through several screening procedures with various panels that cut across different backgrounds on the basic and core features in the production of a film/music video, various angles are also considered such as Story/Storyboards, camera angles, production, film quality, authenticity and innovative. The winners are subsequently picked by skilled judges who are seasoned professionals in these fields with the technical expectation of the criteria and with all these strict criteria’s illbiss still clinched an award.

Ill Bliss won the award for the Best Hip Hop Video at the very first edition of the SMVA in 2008 for his song “U Go Wound”. His award was presented to him by the American Hip Hop star, Nas who compared him to the Notorious B.I.G. and Ill Bliss describes it as the biggest endorsement that a Nigerian artist can get. The award came before he even released his debut album, “Dat Ibo Boy” which contained other hits like “Aiye Po Gan.” And as this year’s SMVA draws closer, his advice is for everybody to see himself as a winner.

P- Square the dynamic duo who have been nominated in 4 various categories which are Best Editing, Best Duo or Group Video, Best Video and Best western because of their hit song Danger speak about SMVA.

SMVA is making meaningful impact in the entertainment industry as it’s the only 24hr dedicated music channel, which gives them leverage and authority to host a video award says the Duo.
