Eldee, Speaks on SMVA 2010

Soundcity Music Video awards also called SMVA which debuted in 2008 with its first award has come a long way ,the in – augural edition was spell binding as the attendees were enthralled and transfixed by the thrill of the awards. The growth and the evolution of this brand have been noteworthy as it unremittingly seeks for innovative platforms and avenues to consistently project the Nigerian entertainment industry with its foreign counter parts

SMVA is an award used to reward excellence in the art of creativity of production videos, and the origin or the basis for which SMVA was born to give a platform and equal opportunities to the various talents that Nigeria has recorded over the years.

Lanre Dabiri aka “eLDee the Don” is the founder of Trybe Records. A music producer, recording artist, and a qualified architect shares his excitement about his nomination as the best collaboration in a music video “We are African’s remix”. It is a great feeling to be nominated in this catogory. I'm glad I decided to be a part of the record and to propagate the message "we are Africans". I'm proud to be African and I want to encourage people to show more pride in that regard. The nomination is an acknowledgement of creativity and it feels good to be recognized as one of the best

eLDee a veteran in the Nigerian entertainment scene , as the head of Trybesmen and Trybe Records, engineered what has now become the music genre most call Afro-hip hop/Afro-pop. With Trybesmen’s undeniably incredible blend of Afro beat, Reggae, Highlife and hip hop, and with over 78 sold-out shows in one year, it was no surprise that Trybesmen became a force to be reckoned with across West Africa. Trybe Records also created a platform for new talents that would help achieve the goal of placing African Hip Hop/African Pop on the international map.

Eldee’s nomination came as no surprise to him ”I put my best into every record I produce, write or record, so every time I step into the studio I'm trying to create classics. I walk in trying to win every possible award with every single song and he also attributes his nomination to the quality of the video and song and the strength of their fans.

SMVA is definitely making an impact. It is one platform that has encouraged talent to sit up, it has encouraged favorable competition. You can see the difference in quality of videos pre and post SMVA. The overall impact on the industry is very commendable.

Eldee d don as he is fondly called believes like every other talented artiste that he has what it takes to clinch the award and jokingly chips in “Shebi na creativity una dey reward? I'd like to imagine I'm one of the more creative artists from this part of the world.*smile* I was nominated last year in 3 categories but didn't win any. I hope this year will be different. The nomination is recognition of good quality work so I hope we are able to walk away with some plaques this year.

The third edition of SMVA is scheduled to hold on the 20th of November this year at the Expo Hall of Eko Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria will be nothing short of spectacular as this year’s theme focuses on the African entertainment industry and also see’s strong brands like P square and Banky W heading the nomination lists.
