Merry Hearts Charity Banquet

August 28, 2010 was an evening well spent - it was the 3rd annual fund-raising banquet hosted by the Merry Hearts Foundation (MHF) in Silver Springs, Maryland.

The purpose of the event was to highlight the significance of progressive education in the whole of Africa as well as other developing nations, to enlighten the minds of capable individuals and corporations to better understand that the most plausible way to bring social and economic change to these regions of the world is through education, and to bring to light the detrimental effect the lack of equal opportunity for education is having on these regions.

The main goal was to raise funds to build two libraries - Edo & Lagos.

MHF left no stone unturned by commissioning one of the hottest comedians; Seyi Brown to host the event. The charity banquet kicked off with an opening prayer led by Niyi followed by a welcome address which was given by Tomiwa Igun (editor/strategy marketing person for MHF). Tomiwa shared the SOS (save our souls) slide show which featured MHF's visit to Nigeria in 2007/08 - adopt a class initiative taking place in 4 schools in epe; christmas party for orphans at SOS in 2009.

Ace comedian Seyi Brown had the entire audience rolling, some almost fell off their seats.

Mr. Mobolaji Aluko, a professor of Chemical Engineering at Howard University DC gave the keynote speech and emphasized the importance of education. Abimbola Awolusi talked about the scholarship application process; Blessing Igiogbe gave a presentation on project hygiene - goal is to empower & educate young, abused women. Bunmi Babajide (program coordinator) gave a presentation on the library project - the slide-show featured a detailed view of what the libraries would look like upon completion. Mr. Tope Omotayo gave a presentation on behalf of Wazobia Network and Olamild of OE read the thank you notes from students that have been helped by the Merry Hearts Foundation.

Pop/Urban/RnB singer Duncan Daniels mounted the stage to share his childhood experience in Nigeria & rocked the crowd with some tracks from his shostoppah album; 3 models hit the stage during the performance to showcase modern African attire. The event ended with sweet music from don X Entertainment. Guest appearances include award winning RnB sensation Tolumide, well fed comedian Jedi, Solitude & more.

Event was sponsored by Otunba Dr. Peter Obafemi (Gov. Candidate for Ekiti 2011), Transatlantic Investments & developments, Afrogames entertainment, NaijaLib Project, Party Addicts Worldwide, Don X Entertainment and Olamild Ent.

Overall, it was an evening of elegance, entertainment and empowerment.
